The popular city break destination of Malaga offers much more than just beach resorts, the local tourist board has claimed.Antonio Montejo Romero, a spokesperson for Malaga City Tourist Board and Convention Bureau, said that many Brits visit the city just to enjoy the Costa del Sol, however the "momentous heritage" is well worth exploring as well.
Stretching right back to the Roman times with a traditional amphitheatre, Malaga city also includes Jewish, Catholic and Arabian influences, he said.
"Malaga city is not well known yet, it's a little treasure in the Costa del Sol," Mr Romero added.
His comments come after a recent survey found that Spain was the most popular car hire destination in Europe, with many more Brits choosing to stay for two weeks this year instead of just one.
City break travellers looking to visit Malaga this summer can catch flights with a variety of airlines, including British Airways, easyJet and BMI Baby.
