Virginia offers 'classic seasonal offerings'

Posted on: 16 September 2011

Car hire may be a necessity for those who want to experience the full range of experiences Virginia has to offer over Christmas.

The tourism board for the state has announced a range of seasonal holiday deals and getaway ideas.

One of the offerings is a Colonial Christmas programme in Williamsburg. This includes a film and interpretive presentations that compare 17th century festive customs from England with how the occasion may have been celebrated in the early years of Jamestown.

From there it is also possible to take a drive to the location where the American Revolution was won.

Another town, Bristow, offers a Civil War Christmas, which provides the chance to see how the time of the year was celebrated by soldiers of that conflict when separated from their families.

Similarly, historic trails and tours have also been launched in the state recently, to mark the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War.
