Virgin Atlantic has launched a new service from London Gatwick to Kingston, Jamaica, with chairman Sir Richard Branson on the island to welcome the inaugural flight on October 30th.Kingston is the airline's 30th destination worldwide and eighth flight location in the Caribbean, with services also available to Antigua, Grenada and Tobago among others.
Flights will depart Gatwick twice a week on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, with return services taking off from Jamaica on Wednesdays and Sundays.
Kingston is the second Jamaican destination offered by Virgin Atlantic following the launch of services to Montego Bay in July 2006.
Sir Richard said: "We are delighted to be able to offer new flights to Jamaica so soon after we launched our Montego Bay services last year. We are doubling Virgin Atlantic's capacity between London and Jamaica to almost 200,000 seats a year.
"These new flights will mean that Jamaicans, many of whom have strong links with the UK, will have competitive fares on offer along with the world class service Virgin Atlantic is renowned for."
The new services are part of a deal between Virgin and Air Jamaica that will enable passengers to access connecting flights on the island.
