Holidaymakers planning an around-the-world trip now have the option of booking flights from the US to Africa. This is because United Airlines has launched its first nonstop flight to the continent, which will travel between Houston, Texas to Lagos in Nigeria.
Continental Airlines will operate the service and noted no other carrier runs a service between these two destinations.
A Boeing 777 will travel between the cities and the plane boasts reclining seats that can be converted into beds in business class, a personal inflight entertainment system and a gourmet menu that will offer Nigerian cuisine.
"The new flights offer convenient nonstop access to Lagos for travellers from Houston's vibrant energy sector and large Nigerian community, reducing roundtrip travel time between the two cities by more than six hours," commented executive vice-president and chief revenue officer for United Airlines Jim Compton.
Tourists planning a trip to east Africa could consider visiting Uganda, as Lonely Planet contributor Tom Hall recently described the country as providing a good introduction to the continent for those who have never been.
