Take the kids to a reading event in Sydney
Posted on: 25 January 2012
Book lovers who have booked flights to Sydney and wish to impart their passion for reading to their children may be able to attend an event dedicated to this. The Australian city's Glebe Library will be hosting a Kids' Day on February 4th, which marks the country's first National Year of Reading.
Author readings, face painting and story telling will all be taking place on the library lawn, in addition to other activities such as a ukulele workshop and a circus skills class.
It is hoped such opportunities will fire a child's imagination and Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore noted it is important kids learn to read as part of a fulfilling lifestyle.
"Reading can be such a pleasure, but it's also a critical life skill that shouldn't be taken for granted," he remarked.
Families who booked flights to New York for a city break over the festive period may have enjoyed a similar event at the Hyde Collection in Glens Falls, which included a reading of Maurice Sendak's Where The Wild Things Are.
