Scottish sun-seekers offered new Malta route

Posted on: 15 April 2011

The Mediterranean hotspot of Malta is being opened up to Scots looking for some summer sun, as Ryanair has announced a new route out of Glasgow Prestwick airport.

The flights, which will run twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays, will cost from £27.99 each way, inclusive of taxes, the low-cost airline announced.

This means that the number of destinations available to passengers looking to fly out of Glasgow with Ryanair has risen to 23, including Carcassonne and Paris in France, the Portuguese coastal town of Faro and Alicante in Spain.

Iain Cochrane, chief executive at Glasgow Prestwick airport, said: "This great low-cost service will definitely enhance tourism opportunities between Scotland and Malta. It's set to be a great sunshine destination for Scots this summer."

Other flights to Malta from north of the border include the Edinburgh to Malta route, which is served by Ryanair, Air Malta and Lufthansa.
