Robin Hood airport flights prove popular in May

Posted on: 09 June 2010

Flights from Robin Hood airport in Doncaster, Yorkshire proved a popular option among British travellers in May, with more than 96,000 people setting off from the base.

This figure represents a 13 per cent increase from May 2009.

Mike Morton, director of the airport, said he was "delighted" to report such a substantial rise in passenger numbers considering the recent air travel problems caused by the volcanic eruption in Iceland.

He revealed that new Aer Lingus flights contributed to the growth last month.

"Holidaymakers from across Yorkshire and the Humber, north Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire are realising how much easier it is to fly from their local airport and using Doncaster Sheffield for their travel needs," Mr Morton added.

"We are now actively engaging with local businesses as our new routes open up the possibility of more corporate travel and we will continue to work with the community we serve to meet their needs."

Aer Lingus operates flights to Dublin, Boston and New York from Robin Hood airport, while Flybe offers services to Belfast City and Jersey.
