Brazil's tourism sector is set to receive a major boost from the decision to hold the Olympics in the country, it has been claimed.

Laura Rendell-Dunn, spokesperson for Journey Latin America, said that this is because those visiting the sporting event will also want to see what else the nation has to offer, those planning flights to Rio de Janeiro may be interested to hear.

She commented that those doing so will find "beautiful beaches, waterfalls and jungles".

Ms Rendell-Dunn stated: "It (Rio de Janeiro) is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and it is incredible to have such an important event take place there."

She added that most people visiting Brazil will want to stay for longer than a week so they can visit some of the country's "gems".

Rio de Janiero was recently chosen to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, beating the likes of Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo in the process.
