New frequent flyer options announced by United Continental

Posted on: 19 December 2011

Flyers who regularly book cheap flights with United Continental Airlines could now benefit from an increased range of options when redeeming their mileage points.

When visiting a participating airport, social network sites such as Facebook and Foursquare can be used to share a current location.

If this is done, an additional 50 award miles will be granted to the user for each daily check in.

Another scheme allows tourists to vote for their preferred charity to benefit from a ten million mile contribution from the MileagePlus programme.

Each charity listed will receive at least 25,000 miles, plus a portion of the grant based on the number of votes they receive.

"We are pleased to offer an expanding and attractive set of mileage-earning opportunities and rewards across our network and look forward to giving customers new, unique ways to stay engaged with the MileagePlus program," commented president of Mileage Plus Holdings Jeff Foland.

Continental is not the only firm expanding their loyalty schemes, as a codeshare agreement recently announced by KLM and Air France has seen the two carriers make these benefits available across both firms' routes.
