New York recovers strong tourism industry

Posted on: 11 August 2011

Flights to New York may be booked up early, as one expert has claimed the city's strong tourism board has recovered well over the last ten years since 9/11.

Vijay Dandapani, president of Apple Core Hotels and also a member of the Board of Directors of the Hotel Association of New York City, explained that the confidence visitors have in taking trips to the destination is proven by the large inflows of people into the area.

"Recovery has been fairly robust and continual for New York resulting in an abundance of lodging and attraction choices, particularly for Manhattan," he stated.

This September 11th, it will have been one decade since terrorists flew two planes into the World Trade Center and Mr Dandapani said it was expected that a lot of people would be staying in local hotels for the anniversary.

He added that the tourism growth seen by the city is "unprecedented" when compared with previous "disruptions", such as the 1991 Gulf War and the economic weakness of the 1980s.

Indeed, British Airways recently revealed that New York and Las Vegas are the most popular cities in the US for fly-drive holidays and city breaks.
