Posted on: 15 May 2007
Swiss Airlines (SWISS) has added another Airbus A320 to its European fleet, part of its general scheduled expansion announced last autumn. So far the airline has added five more A320-family aircraft to its European operations since November, and this new Airbus, with carrying capacity for 150 passengers, will be deployed on various routes throughout the SWISS European network.
Speaking in November chief executive of SWISS, Christoph Franz said: "These expansions of our short-haul and long-haul fleets will allow us to effect further gradual enhancements of our route network, and this in turn will make our services even more attractive to our customers."
The airline, which was voted 'Best airline for Europe' and came in third as the 'Best Airline for Middle East and Africa' at the Business Traveller awards earlier this year, now has a fleet of 74 aircraft.
The fleet, which carried a total of 10.5 million passengers in 2006, serves four major UK airports - London Heathrow, London City, Manchester and Birmingham - from its base in Zurich.
