Lufthansa to launch A380 flights to San Francisco

Airline Lufthansa has announced that it will begin offering direct flights to San Francisco Airport using Airbus A380s.

Starting on May 10th this year, the carrier will be the first to operate scheduled flights to the US airport using the superjumbo.

Jens Bischof, Lufthansa's vice-president for the Americas, explained that the daily flights from Frankfurt to San Francisco have been a popular route for the carrier.

He added: "It demonstrates our shared commitment to serving the global travel needs of the area's active business community, while embracing the environmental advancements of the A380.

"Very soon, Europe's most highly regarded airline will serve San Francisco Airport with the industry's most advanced aircraft to date."

Lufthansa fly to a number of destinations including Zurich, Basel, Amsterdam, Bangkok and Barcelona.
