Have a Christmas dinner at 35,000 feet

Holidaymakers planning a city break in New York over the festive period could get into the spirit of the season while in transit to their destination.

If they book flights with Virgin Atlantic to travel on December 24th, 25th or 26th, they could order a traditional Christmas dinner.

Chief commercial officer for the airline Julie Southern said her firm expects to be transporting approximately 38,000 passengers over this timeframe.

She added the carrier is "delighted" to be able to offer onboard festivities to get people in the mood.

Turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, gravy, roast potatoes, red cabbage and brussel sprouts comprise the meal and all guests will be offered mince pies for pudding.

Those in economy class will have the additional option of a chocolate Father Christmas, while upper class customers will be treated to winter Pimms and a clotted cream dessert.

An alternative destination for tourists looking for a festive getaway could be Thailand, as spokesman for the country's new luxury resort Conrad Koh Samui Dale Keller said it is a "perennial favourite" for Brits.
