Finnair extends mobile boarding service

Posted on: 13 November 2009

Travellers catching flights to Helsinki and other destinations from London Heathrow or Manchester with Finnair now have the option of using their mobile phone to check in.

The airline announced that it had extended its mobile boarding service to the UK airports for its Finnair Plus members, who will be automatically eligible to use the facility when they add a phone number to their profile.

Prior to departure, travellers planning to check in using their mobile will receive a text message containing their flight information.

If the details are correct, customers send a confirmation message with the letter A and receive a reply that includes a link to their mobile boarding pass, which should be shown at the airport.

Travellers must have an internet-enabled phone to use the service.

The London Heathrow and Manchester launch is an extension to Finnair's mobile boarding scheme, which until now has only been available on certain flights.

Finnair operates a long-haul network from its hub in Helsinki that includes flights to Tokyo, Hong Kong and New York.
