City break visitors encouraged to explore beyond Barcelona
Posted on: 22 June 2011
Brits taking a city break to Barcelona this summer have been urged to go beyond the main tourist areas and discover the variety of Catalonia.Patrick Richards, chairman of the European Tour Operators Association (ETOA), made this recommendation at the recent City Fair 2011.
He claimed that there is a "bubble" around Barcelona, which means that many are unlikely to explore the countryside around the city.
However, Mr Richards added that the city is doing "very well" in terms of attracting visitors to its numerous hotspots, including the waterfront and its various cathedrals.
City break visitors will find it even easier to visit Barcelona next summer, as budget airline jet2.com has recently announced that it will be increasing its 2012 flights into the city by 25 per cent.
Other major airlines offering flights to the popular Spanish destination include British Airways, Iberia and Lufthansa.
