Celebrities love Iceland, says Icelandair

A whole host of celebrities, from Bill Clinton to the members of Metallica, are fans of Iceland, according to low-cost airline Icelandair.

It seems that city breaks to Reykjavik may be among the favourite holiday destinations of the former US President and the heavy metal band, as all of them are rumoured to be big fans of the pylsur, the traditional Icelandic hotdog.

Other famous fans of the island include Chris Martin of Coldplay, who told the Sunday Times: "When you land in Iceland, you feel like you're somewhere a bit magical. Maybe it's the volcanic activity, maybe it's the dried fish, but something's going on."

Yoko Ono, who built her Imagine Peace Tower in Reykjavik, is also a fan of the country, labelling it "an ideal location from which to cover the Earth with enlightenment and love" on her website.

Damon Albarn, of Blur and Gorillaz fame, also spent much of the late 90s in Iceland.

With the Icelandic kroner currently weak against the pound thanks to the economic crisis, non-celebrity tourists may find that city breaks to Reykjavik are cheap for them too.
