"Breathtaking" Cape Town on the up

Posted on: 19 February 2007

South Africa is rapidly establishing itself as one of the most fascinating holiday destinations in the world, according a report from SA Venues, with Cape Town leading the way.

The city has vibrant, modern elements such as a jazz festival, an opera house and an exciting array of restaurants, as well as cultural and historical highlights.

One extremely popular tourist destination is Robben Island, the former prison where Nelson Mandela was held for so many years; the site is now protected as a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

"Cape Town has breathtaking views as towering mountain ranges reach down to the sea," said Stefani Searle from SA Venues.

"You can ride a cable car to the top of famous Table Mountain, then stroll down to the ocean to watch whales, all while taking in the vast historical and cultural influences that range from Indonesian to French, Dutch, British, German, and indigenous Bushman and Hottentot tribes."

The cape itself splits two oceans and two spectacular sets of beaches, just so you can take some time to relax and bask in the African sun after all the sight-seeing.

There are also dozens of world-class hotels in Cape Town, providing excellent but reasonably priced accommodation in this sensational part of the world. Cheap flights from the likes of South African Airways also mean that holidaymakers can complete their journey without breaking the bank.
