Austrian Airlines reduces fuel surcharge

Posted on: 18 December 2008

Austrian Airlines has announced that it will reduce the surcharge it currently levies on passengers for fuel, a move which could benefit tourists looking to book cheap flights in Europe.

From December 23rd, the airline will reduce the surcharge on long-haul flights by 16 euros (£15) and will cut the fuel charge on short and medium haul flights from 24 euros to 21 euros.

Austrian Airlines said the changes were due to the fact that world oil prices have come down in recent months.

In a statement, the airline said: "Due to a continued relaxation in conditions on fuel markets, the fuel surcharge for Austrian Airlines flights will be reduced."

The announcement by the airline could be good news for tourists wanting cheap flights to Austria or planning city breaks to Vienna.

Austrian airlines operates cheap flights from the UK to many other European destinations, operating 130 routes worldwide.
