Argentina flights recommence

Posted on: 17 January 2012

Holidaymakers planning to take flights to Argentina could benefit from the re-opening of a new airport destination.

This is because two carriers - Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral - have announced the recommencement of their services to San Carlos de Bariloche.

The route had been closed throughout most of 2011 due to refurbishment work at the terminal building and the eruption of the Peyehue volcano, which created hazardous conditions.

Redirections took passengers to the Neuquen and Esquel airports while flights were suspended as a result of the volcanic ash, with connecting transport provided by coach.

National minister of tourism Enrique Meyer was onboard the first flight to the city from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery and upon landing, he re-opened the refurbished terminal.

European travellers are likely to be able to take advantage of this development, as Air France and KLM recently announced a codeshare agreement with Aerolineas Argentinas that will open up new routes between the continents.
