City Break Marrakech

With the Atlas Mountains rising up high above the rose-coloured walls of the Medina, or old town, Marrakech really does feel like a fantasy land.

Morocco's second city, Marrakech has a vitality and excitement that can quickly be discovered on a city break. A mystic city rich in tradition, a visit to its main square, Djemaa El Fna, with its delicious food stalls, sorcerers and acrobats should not be missed.

Though there are not many traditional monuments to be seen in Marrakech, there is plenty to keep you occupied, including its stunning architectural sites such as the Saadian tombs or the splendid Bahia Palace.

Marrakech is renowned for its crafts and a visit to a craft souk, or market, to haggle for some bargains is a must, with leather goods and jewellery particularly highly rated. The city has many great museums to be explored on a city break, including the Musee de Marrakech, which is worth seeing for its sumptuous architecture, as well as its exhibits of Moroccan arts.

To unwind, try visiting the sub-tropical garden, the Jardin Majorelle, owned by Yves Saint Laurent, enjoy a Hamman steam bath, or sip a refreshing cup of mint tea from one of the many cafes and restaurants in Marrakech.
