City Break Lisbon

Known as one of Europe's most beautiful cities, diverse Lisbon is a perfect destination to discover during a city break.

Its wide leafy streets and pavement cafes contribute to a laid back Mediterranean-style atmosphere, while the traditional folk singing, fado, can often be heard in the city.

The medieval cobbled streets of Alfama, Lisbon's oldest district, are worth a visit and contrast with the art nouveau buildings, sumptuous Manueline architecture and modern high rise buildings to be found elsewhere in the city.

There is plenty to do during a short city break, with a few drinks at some of the city's trendy and modern bars, a trip to the beach, or getting a birds-eye view of Lisbon from the Vasco de Gama Tower, all popular options.

Lisbon offers remarkably good value for a city break destination and accommodation is often a little cheaper than in Britain. A large selection of good quality hotels are available, while for those who want to try self-catering, the large Ribeira open-air food market presents a great opportunity to try some local cuisine.

Direct flights between Lisbon and the UK are available through a range of flight operators, among them the national airline TAP Air Portugal, with Lisbon only around two hours flight from London.
