Serving four major UK airports - London Heathrow, London City, Manchester and Birmingham - Swiss International Air Lines offers cheap flights across Europe, North and South America, the Middle East, the Far East and Africa, from its base in Zurich.

It operates scheduled flights to 76 destinations in 40 countries worldwide from its Zurich hub and the Swiss international airports of Basel and Geneva, as well as charter flights to a range of holiday destinations.

Its takeover by German airline Lufthansa in July 2007 brought passengers a range of benefits, from more flight destinations to greater lounge access.

Swiss Airline

Swiss International Air Lines is a member of the Star Alliance, which is the world's largest airline network, allowing it to offer its passengers an even greater range of flight destinations and great value airfares.

The airline's membership of the Star Alliance also means that you can redeem air miles when travelling with any of its alliance partners, making your airfare go even further.

Swiss International Air Lines' frequent flier programme, Miles & More, is Europe's most extensive scheme, allowing customers to collect and redeem air miles for flights and other services.

The carrier prides itself on the high quality of its flights and their reflection of Swiss values such as reliability and hospitality.

It has also committed to the sustainable and careful use of resources and, in 2008, reported CO2 emissions per passenger-kilometre of 97g.

Passengers can choose between the luxury and extra comfort of Swiss first class travel, the comfort and calm atmosphere of Swiss business class or the friendly service of Swiss economy class.

Those willing to spend a little bit more on their airfare for the extra relaxation of business class can enjoy the new Taste of Switzerland culinary concept on many Swiss International Air Lines flights.

With food created by world-renowned chefs, the concept will tantalise passengers' taste buds with fine local ingredients and recipes from featured culinary regions.

From June 2008, a web check-in service has been available for all passengers on Swiss International Air Lines routes who hold electronic tickets, allowing check-in to take place over the internet and saving waiting in queues at the airline desk before the flight.

Swiss International Air Lines operates its flights on a modern fleet of 78 aircraft of seven types.

Long-haul aircraft include the new Airbus A340 model, as well as A330, while among the aeroplanes it uses for its medium and short-haul flights are the Airbus A320 and A321 models.

The aircraft offers economy class customers an extra 5cm of room, on top of excellent entertainment facilities including ten games, 35 video channels and 16 audio channels to keep you entertained all flight.

The business class is designed to allow you to do exactly what you feel like while on a long flight: work, relax or sleep, with as few interruptions as possible.

Finding peace and quiet depends largely on having enough space for yourself. So Swiss gives you lots of room to make sure you can really unwind.

Airbus A340:

You can adjust your seat to suit your own preference and comfort requirements. This will ensure that you enjoy deep, restful sleep. You can even set it to almost completely horizontal - at an angle of 13° recline that is aligned to the position of an aircraft at cruise altitude.

At the end of a long flight you want to arrive feeling fresh and ready to get on with your business. To help you do just that Swiss has a range of personal hygiene items available. An amenities kit that you can use long after your flight stocked with socks, eyeshades, toothbrush, toothpaste, earplugs and breath-freshener.

Swiss Economy

You can identify a Swiss aircraft by its livery and interior. But your first true impression of the flight ahead comes with the welcome extended toward you by the flight attendants - and the various economy class extras that are "typically Swiss".

The flight attendants undergo a challenging selection and training process. They speak at least two languages each. In fact, most of them speak three and some are fluent in four or five tongues. Combining charm and efficiency to great effect, they are consistently selected as award winners on an international front.

Although the Swiss Economy cabin is not as spacious as Swiss Business and Swiss First that doesn't mean you have to worry about having to squeeze into your seat. Swiss has already accounted for that by reducing by 5cm the thickness of the seat back in the Airbus A340s. This translates into extra space for you.

Shortly before landing Swiss pass out hot towels, a service normally associated with Business Class, and a Swiss chocolate.

Your seat features the latest technology, with an extra thin seat back that allows you more room.
