Qatar Airways is one of the fastest growing airlines in the world and offers flights to destinations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa as well as Asia and the Indian subcontinent.

It is one of only five airlines in the world that has a Five Star ranking for service and excellence awarded by independent aviation industry body Skytrax and its cabin crew has been rated fifth best in the world.

Qatar Airways had a successful year in 2006, winning a range of prestigious travel industry awards. These included being named Best Airline in the Middle East and Africa at the TTG Asia Travel Awards and Best Airline in the Middle East at the Skytrax awards.

It also won four key awards at the World Travel Awards - World's Leading Business Class Airline, World's Leading Airline Inflight Meal Service, Leading Airline in the Middle East and Leading Middle East Business Airline.

The national airline of the Arabian Gulf state of Qatar, the company prides itself on representing the values and hospitality of its homeland, yet at the same time caring and catering for people from diverse cultures and backgrounds across the world.

Among the more than 60 destinations offered by the airline are Cape Town, Bangkok, Delhi, Cairo, Munich and Vienna. Good value flights are available from London Gatwick, London Heathrow and Manchester Airport in the UK

The company has expanded its routes to offer more flights per week to popular destinations and more great value air fares. A third daily flight between London Heathrow and Doha in Qatar was added in April while the Doha to Manchester route was upgraded to five flights a week.

The upgrades mean that the airline now operates 35 flights a week between Britain and Doha.

New flight routes planned for 2007 include non-stop scheduled flights between Doha and Bali, Ho Chi Minh City, Dar Es Salaam, Lagos and New York - its first US flight - as well as two new European destinations.

Qatar Airways recently signed a deal worth US $5.1 billion (£2.7 billion) with Airbus for an additional 32 aircraft which will be delivered by the end of 2008, bringing the fleet to 52 aeroplanes and offering many more great air fares.

An airline with one of the youngest fleets in the air, it has also bought two A380 'super jumbos' to be delivered in 2009, for US $1.2 billion (£0.64 billion), which will become the airline's flagship aircraft.

It recently announced that it has ordered 20 new state-of-the-art Boeing 777 aeroplanes and two Boeing 777 freight aircraft as well, which will be delivered from 2009, to coincide with the opening of the new Doha International Airport.

The company has invested significantly in the airport, which it manages and operates, in order to give customers fast connections and an even better airport experience.

Qatar Airways opened the world's only First and Business Class dedicated terminal in November, complete with luxurious facilities including a spa, jacuzzi, sauna and massage services, so passengers can relax before they fly.

Premium passengers can enjoy dedicated e-gates to speed up immigration formalities and self-service check in kiosks for passengers with hand luggage. The e-gates will operate using an e-card which contains a customer's biometric data.

Built at a cost of $900 million in nine months, the new premium terminal also promises duty-free shopping, conference rooms, a concierge service, fine dining restaurants, a business centre with secretary service and a 24-hour medical centre as well as numerous relaxing water features.

An additional service for business class customers was launched in October in the shape of an instant frequent flier enrolment kiosk at Doha International Airport. This allows passengers to enrol for the Qatar Airways Privilege Club, with membership cards, complete with a 500-mile introductory bonus, dispensed within seconds of passengers completing their registration details.

However, you don't have to be travelling on a first class or business class ticket in order to enjoy great service from Qatar Airways. In the summer of 2006, the airline became the first international airline in the world to introduce live digital and satellite TV transmitted to every passenger on their individual seatback screen.

By the end of next year, around 24 of the airline's aeroplanes should be equipped with the TV system.

Safety is one of the airline's key priorities, it says, with customer focus, a commitment to people and financial strength all important values too.

One lucky passenger with the airline recently won $1 million in one of Qatar Duty Free's regular raffle prize draws, tickets for which can be bought from Doha International Airport.
