As
the world's largest airline, American Airlines offers a very wide
choice of flights to 250 destinations in 40 countries all around the
world.
With
regular cheap flights serving London and Manchester airports in the
UK, and some flights serving Glasgow, passengers can travel to an
extensive and convenient choice of destinations in the US, South and
Central America, and beyond.
American
Airlines is also a member of the oneworld alliance, an alliance of
eight of the world's best airlines, with other members including British
Airways, Cathay Pacific, Iberia and Air Lingus.
This
membership further extends the range of exciting destinations that
the company can offer flights and cheap airfares to. It also provides
easier transfers for American Airlines customers in airports all over
the planet and the ability to earn and redeem airmiles on flights
operated by any of the alliance partners.
You
can also earn airmiles with the American Airlines AAdvantage miles
plan when travelling with American Airlines code share partners, which
includes selected rail journeys as well as flights from more than
15 airline partners.
The
airline regularly runs special offers and promotions featuring very
cheap airfares, but for the cheapest airfares from American Airlines,
make sure you book your flight from Major Travel.
American
Airlines operates a large and modern fleet of 683 aeroplanes, including
34 large Airbus A300-600 aeroplanes, 77 Boeing 737-800 aircraft and
143 Boeing 757s.
With
hubs based in several US destinations including Dallas Fort-Worth
International Airport, the airline adheres to stringent safety and
maintenance procedures, performing 11 man-hours of maintenance for
every hour each aircraft spends in flight.
Passengers
can enjoy great service on board an American Airlines flight as well.
The airline recently overhauled the menu for all its transcontinental
flights featuring delicious new choices, including new healthy eating
options.
Even
for the cost of an economy airfare, American Airlines passengers can
enjoy individual seat back video with a choice of 12 channels of programming
and music on all Boeing 777 aeroplanes, and complimentary headsets
to keep you entertained all through the flight.
For
extra convenience, American Airlines lets customers check-in for their
flight electronically, using its internet Flight Check-In Service.
Check-in can be carried out over the internet and a boarding card
printed to avoid having to wait in airport queues before the flight.
American
Airlines can trace its roots back to 1924, when aviator Charles A
Lindbergh operated a flight to take a bag of mail from St Louis to
Chicago in a small DH-4 biplane. A group of small aviation companies
were merged and eventually became American Airlines in 1934.
The
company began operating European flights in the 1940s and pioneered
non-stop transcontinental flights in both directions in 1953.
American
Airlines has won many industry awards for its flights and airfares
over the years and in 2004 won eight awards from Executive Travel
magazine, including Best Airline for Customer Service, Best In-flight
Amenities and Entertainment and Best Airline to the Caribbean.
It
was also recognised as the Airline of Choice for Travellers with a
Disability at the 2006 OAG awards in London.
