Adria Airways

From its hub at Ljubljana airport in Slovenia, Adria Airways operates flights to a range of European destinations, serving Manchester, Birmingham and London Gatwick airports in the UK, as well as Dublin airport in Ireland.

Adria Airways offers low airfares to around 20 European destinations, with about 20 scheduled flights per week from Ljubljana to places such as Amsterdam, Istanbul, Moscow and Zurich.

In 2001 it also introduced a new flight route between Vienna and Frankfurt, entering the European Union market.

The Slovenian national airline, Adria Airways was founded as a charter airline 1961 and has expanded to carry 944,288 passengers in 2005 as well as 3,035 tons of cargo.

It still operates seasonal charter flights to holiday hotspots such as the Mediterranean and began serving scheduled routes in the 1980s, becoming a member of the International Air Transport Association.

Adria Airways became a regional member of the prestigious Star Alliance airline organisation in 2004, having been a long-term partner of many large European airlines including Lufthansa. The membership means that even more exciting destinations and flights are available to Adria Airways passengers.

The airline was one of the first to receive IOSA accreditation, which determines the airline's level of organisation, its operating procedures, flight safety and security.

As well as servicing its own fleet, Adria Airways also provides maintenance and service work for several other airlines at its hub in Ljubljana.

Due to increased demand for its flights, the airline has also leased a Boeing 737-500 aeroplane from Ukranian International Airlines for one year.
