Ukraine Airlines – Flight and Travel Information
Ukraine International Airlines, or UIA, provides passengers more European direct services from Ukraine than any other airline. Customers can choose from one of 300 scheduled flights per week to 70 countries, many of which have onward connections to take them to other destinations worldwide. UIA continues to attract more and more passengers each year and says that it holds safety as an "absolute priority".
Established in 1992, it now regularly flies into London Gatwick and London Heathrow allowing British travellers to access Ukraine with ease. The airline is based at Kiev Borispol Airport which is located approx 28 km from the city centre. It has satisfied all goals set out in the foundation documents; creating a high-quality, competitive international Ukrainian airline; expanding and integrating Ukraine’s aviation industry worldwide; introducing the best technology and management methods; attracting foreign investment and earning profits. The airline has been recognised with awards for its safety and economic contribution to the country.
UIA offers a frequent flyer programme named Panorama Club which allows travellers to earn miles whenever they fly with one of the carrier's partner airlines. As well as adding miles in the air, you can also top up your points by renting cars, staying at hotels or using the products and services of further programme partners. Panorama Club members are offered a range special benefits and privileges which "set you apart from other passengers". These include award tickets, class upgrades and discounts at duty free shops, hotels and rent-a-car companies. Members are also permitted to transfer their awards to family and friends.
Eating on board with UIA is a delight as meals can be specially chosen before you fly. Those with particular dietary needs can order their special meals from vegetarian food to Halaal, kosher, diabetic, fat or salt-free meals, as well as dishes suitable for children and babies. Special foods need to be ordered at least 48 hours before departure.
Electrical devices including laptops, video cameras, walkmans, CD players, electric shavers, dictaphones or other recording devices are permitted on board but must be turned off during taxi, take-off and landing, so business travellers can rest assured they can keep on top of their work while flying.
Ukraine Airlines Business Class:
Business Class passengers have separate check in desks in all airports making the boarding process as hassle-free as possible and those who are also members of the Panorama Club will receive an extra 50 per cent in miles.
Those travelling Business Class with UIA can also relax in one of the business lounges located in the international airports and take more baggage than other passengers.
Should plans change, Business Class travellers can change their flights without charge and, once aboard, enjoy the comfort of a spacious cabin and wide seats with adjustable headrests.
Magazines and newspapers are available onboard, while refreshments include spirits and soft beverages as well as European and Ukrainian cuisine.
Ukraine Airlines Economy Class:
Economy passengers will benefit from a complimentary snack or meal depending on the duration of the flight as well as tea, coffee or another beverage.
As well as carrying passengers, with His Holiness Pope John Paul II a flier with UIA, the airline is responsible for looking after a wide range of cargo shipments. Some of the more unusual transportees are animals heading to Tbilisi Zoo. Deer, sea lions, a lion cub and baby tapir are some of the wild creatures seen onboard UIA planes.
