TAP Portugal – Flight and Travel Information

TAP Portugal is the national airline of Portugal and flies to 62 destinations in Europe, Africa and North, Central and South America. Established in 1946, the Lisbon-based carrier has a fleet of 53 aircraft with more on order. It has a good safety record with only one accident with fatalities back in 1977. TAP is also a member of the Star Alliance alongside 21 other members including Air Canada, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines System, Thai Airways International and United Airlines.

In October 2008, the airline will introduce daily flights between Lisbon and Casablanca in Morocco after high customer demand. The company says that at the end of August 2008 it had ferried around 340,000 passengers to and from Africa throughout the year - up 20.5 per cent on the year before. It predicts that by January 2009, 500,000 people will have chosen to fly to Africa on TAP Portugal planes.

TAP also offers a frequent flyer programme named Victoria which allows passengers to earn air miles and enjoy cheap deals. It has three membership levels: Victoria Miles Winners, Victoria Silver Winners and Victoria Gold Winners. The first needs no activity to join, the second is for those who have gained 30,000 Status Miles in 12 consecutive months and the third is for passengers with 70,000 Status Miles in 12 consecutive months.

The carrier offers an online check-in service which speeds up the process of boarding as it allows you to print off your own boarding pass. Online check-in is available 24 hours prior to your flight's departure and is available for passengers flying with or without luggage.

It has also recently announced that it would be increasing the number of check-in desks available at Lisbon Airport for TAP Plus passengers and Victoria Silver cardholders. In November last year, TAP Portugal scooped a UK World Travel Market Award for its strong contribution to the tourism industry in Portugal.

Passengers have the option of flying in one of two class cabins, Top Executive Class or Economy.
